Residents of homes in Colorado Springs may have to get out the can’t-do spirit for 2013 and they are more determined than ever to do so. From boosting the economy and adding jobs to highlighting Colorado Springs real estate as a “beautiful and vibrant” welcoming community to news that sale of homes in Colorado Springs are up, residents of The Springs are planning for a great year.
On December 28, 2012, Colorado Springs Business Journal talked about “prospects for the year to come.” The story leads off with an optimistic Mayor Steve Bach determined to get the economy back to where it was before 2008. Economists say 6000 new civilian jobs need to be added for three consecutive years. Bach is determined to do what it takes.
With home sales sustaining positive increases, the Colorado Springs real estate market should also be helpful for improving economy in 2013. New home sales are also part of the mix. As some companies hold off building in anticipation of changing tax rates in 2013, others are taking advantage of low prices of construction supplies. Nonetheless, some construction products such as wallboard, lumber, and plywood are up.
Amanda Miller on December 13 in the Business Journal quoted the chief economist for the Associated General Contractors of America. “The recent price decreases are very welcome after years of price spikes that contractors could not pass on in a week construction market.”
According to author Monica Mendoza in the December 28 article, Mayor Bach says the city needs to foster job creation, become more fiscally sustainable, and work together with the community. The Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau will be promoting all Colorado Springs businesses related to tourism.
The Waldo Canyon fire itself incentivized the community and broadened the cooperative spirit needed for success. As various sectors reach across the city in a cooperative effort, positive programs and initiatives are taking form. For example, the Small Business Development Center, Ent Federal Credit Union, and the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado will host classes. The organization is helping businesses create emergency plans, why’s insurance coverage, and improved communications.
