Who is Training in Colorado Springs?
About 200 athletes are currently training at the CSOTC. Facilities support 12 sports: boxing, Paralympic cycling, fencing, men’s gymnastics, Paralympic judo, modern pentathlon, Olympic and Paralympic shooting, Paralympic swimming, triathlon, weightlifting, and wrestling. These are sports highlighted during summer Olympic, Paralympic, And American, and Parapan American games. The Center is also used for cross training, altitude training, and other sports.
Facilities include the Athlete Center, sports Centers I and II, Olympic Fencing and Modern Pentathlon Center, Olympic Shooting Center, and the Velodrome, West Wing Conference Center, Ted Stevens Sport Services Medical Center. The Olympic Visitor Center is a great place to pick up everything Olympic to get ready for the summer games in Brazil.
Take a Tour
Some of the most illustrious athletes are present at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center. In fact, they offer tours to the public for five dollars – well worth it. The tour begins with a fountain and includes 45-minute walking tour. Tours are conducted every half hour. Contact the Visitor Center for reservations at 719-866-4618. The address is 1750 East Boulder St., Colorado Springs, CO 80909. The Visitor Center is open from 9 to 5.
History
Set on the former ENT Air Force Base and headquarters of the NORAD command, the Colorado Springs facility began when the US Olympic Committee met before the London Olympics in July 1978. The Velodrome was built in 1983 to prepare for the 1984 Olympic Games. The Velodrome is the official venue for all US Olympic and Paralympic track cycling and roller sports it includes a 333.3-meter banked Summit cycling track and 1000 seats.
